Artist statement



Human beings are chucking themselves into the world between uncertainty and certainty and bear it while living their lives. ‘Hope in the present’ affects people or is affected by them to lead the life by getting away from optimism, pessimism and rationalistic thinking for the future.



Even in a situation where people were forced to be isolated due to exceptional pandemic, they rapidly established virtual space that is not limited to physical limitation of time and space and is perhaps given with permanence such as Metaverse to freely have relationship with others, work and play.



Such hope comes from human nature that ‘seeks meaning, amusement and eternity of existence’ from a ‘relationship’. I pay attention to the nature of this person who fulfills the present life.

People can’t live as individuals and confirm their existence by being in harmony with others while continuously making relationship and interacting with them. Moreover, according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, when human beings reach to high level of growth needs beyond deficiency needs, they live for others rather than for themselves, and furthermore, they tend to have agape-like Altruism to live for nature, universe or existence itself including human beings or other living things in the world.



In <The Diving Bell and the Butterfly>, a film about true story of Jean-Dominique Bauby, on the other hand, the main character tried to record his memories and imaginations of freely flying just like a butterfly even in a situation which he was paralyzed by the disease and could only move his left eyelid.

Even if his body is slowly disappearing in the movie, he wanted to show that his memories and thoughts will be remembered to his loved one, to the world and to someone else in the world. As such, the nature of humans for the meaning, play and eternity from these relationships became faint hope to lead the present life.



I refer to the ‘satisfaction or such state of seeking the meaning, amusement and eternity of the existence from relationship’ as ‘deep(inherent to abyss) joy’ or ‘Gipbmm’. And I want to express a world that is harmless and full of pleasant energy which ‘Gipbmm’ performs affective life as a present hope.




Invisible world is embodied and juxtaposed without limiting to media such as figurative plane painting of ambiguous boundary of figurative and abstract ones, 3D digital image, etc. rather than realistic representation in expressing it. Through juxtaposition, I intended to create and expand a new narrative by breaking boundary of dimension.

Simple writing and drawing are preceded, and captured light, flow of energy, imagination, memories, experiences, events, concepts and senses become motifs throughout the work. And painting which is conducted later create figurative or abstract object, embodied character and symbols in an organic form which quick lines and touches that are floated and organized with various colors. These are combined and organized to create a space and a situation which also composes a plane screen at the same time in some cases. Most of 3D digital works are made based on drawings and paintings.



‘A symbol of Gipbbm’ is a representative repeating figurative motif. This expresses ‘Gipbmm’ through various transformation with a container that includes the story. And there is also ‘Gipbmmer’. ‘Gipbmmer’ completes formative roles that can walk and be given with the body which performs an event and floats in the world of Gipbmm. This work is a ‘practice of joy’ to record and share thoughts on ‘satisfaction of the present hope’ that ‘leads the life’.
